Avionics Installation

Re-imagine Your Aircraft – Make it Truly Your Own

The innovation in avionics is astonishing in both depth and breadth. From glass cockpit displays and touch-screen COM/NAV/GPS transceivers to ADS-B NextGen, modern audio panels, digital autopilots, external HID or LED landing lights and beyond, today’s aircraft electronics offerings can improve the safety, situational awareness, efficiency and comfort of each flight you take.

Whether your airframe is four years old or 40 years old, you can make your aircraft better, safer and more valuable with these products and systems.

Given all this choice, where do you begin? What is important to you? What will enhance your specific aircraft and better enable you for the missions you fly? What new choices best capitalize on the systems already installed in your aircraft? Who can you trust to help you make sound, well-informed decisions about avionics to make your aircraft truly your own?

Forge Flightworks: Award-Winning Excellence

Forge Flightworks, formerly known as Carpenter Avionics, has been doing world-class, award-winning avionics installations and upgrades since 1981. Not just one or two years of awards – 20 years of awards as one of the top avionics shops in the country as voted by readers of Professional Pilot Magazine. That’s a phenomenal record, though we don’t rest on our laurels.  We request Customer Satisfaction feedback from our customers after each project.

Plus, Forge was the only independent dealer in Tennessee that achieved Garmin Avionics Platinum Award for elite performance in 2022!

From single-engine piston airplanes to jet props to business jets and helicopters. From installing one component to re-imagining and re-executing an entirely new panel and beyond. We have the creativity, technical ability, access to product and the passion to help you realize your dream for your aircraft.

The Forge Way – Our Installation Process

What makes a Forge Flightworks installation different?  Better?

First, our business is a Part 145 FAA Repair Station.  This means we do our work to a higher standard and we are subject to more diligent oversight by the Federal Aviation Administration than shops that are not Part 145 licensed.  We view our relationship with the FAA as a partnership in place for your safety.

Further, this is a matter of philosophy and process.  Something we call The Forge Way.

We thrive on the creative process of working with each customer. We take time with you to understand your priorities and to share with you our knowledge and guidance.

We represent every major avionics brand and we can source essentially any general avionics product. Our goal is to help you find the right solution to best meet your specific needs irrespective of brand. We help you make the most well-informed decision possible so you get the best bang for your buck.

Here’s how we work:

  • We map out a complete project plan, which we summarize in our proposal to you.
  • Upon your approval of our proposal, we get underway right away!  We reserve your slot on our schedule; we order major parts for your installation; and we create an engineering plan specific to your aircraft to ensure we meet FAA requirements and your needs – all of this well before your aircraft arrives for the installation.
  • Once your aircraft arrives, we review with you in detail once again the work that is to be done.
  • We validate and, as needed, amend the engineering plan for your project.
  • We do a thorough pre-install avionics inspection to make sure we know what’s working and what may need a further look while your aircraft is in our care.
  • Then, we carefully remove from your aircraft the relevant components and wiring. In many cases, we take trade-ins, which can help reduce the effective cost of your project. Otherwise, we return the relevant gear to you or properly dispose of it at the end of the project, as you prefer.
  • We modify panels and racks, as needed, making use of our computer-aided metal cutting tools and metal-working shop.
  • We take care of any panel painting, labeling or lighting changes that may be needed.
  • We plan and prepare the appropriate wiring harnesses.
  • As our factory-trained technicians install new components and systems using best practice methods, we ground-test along the way and upon completion.
  • We ensure completion of paperwork and relevant aircraft manual additions, including FAA approvals and weight-and-balance entries, as needed.
  • Then we flight test your aircraft with you or your designated pilot to make sure systems are working as they should be and to ensure you are happy with the project.
  • Throughout the process, we keep you informed at key points along the way.
  • After the installation, we stand behind our work.  If an installation-related issue surfaces, we’ll make it right. Because we’re an authorized service center for all major avionics brands, we also can provide manufacturer-warranty services.

We complete each installation project as quickly and efficiently as possible while ensuring a solution of quality and precision that will stand the test of time. That’s the Forge Way.

Of the many avionics shops I have employed over the last 50 years, Carpenter Avionics is by far the best!!!  Everything worked correctly when I left there.  I was so happy that you found and corrected so many potentially dangerous problems that I didn’t even know I had.
